Feeble as a Kitten, and Mr. Stallman...

So it's been a few weeks since I've installed Ubuntu Studio to my rig, Made myself many Blender 3D models, GIMPed up a lot of textures and Effects for said 3D models, and even killed stress with a session or two of Prey, Counterstrike source, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

I've gotten my girlfriend almost totally acclimated to Linux and it's benefits. I've even fixed a "User Error" that almost cost me twenty minutes of re installation time. And all with out ever being tempted to reinstall Windows XP back onto my rig.

This part of my Linux life, I call "Feeble as a Kitten"

All and all I have few if any major issues. but I have a few still. Most issues with me. ?Use to feel like a Computer Veteran with all my skill and clever tricks in manipulating Micro$oft Windows offerings. The moment I install Ubuntu, and saw that my computing skills equaled exactly squat. I felt as feeble as a kitten being mobbed by a mass of Grabby, clingy children.

I still too scared to install from source. and haven found me a really good tutorial that explains what and why I'm doing the things they tell me to do.

I'd rather have a script that took arguments that told it where the source is and what not, then step by step making sure I have dependencies and build the source into a Deb rather then messing with all that.

Oh wait, we do have that.it called AutoDeb. But that so experimental and from what I hear hit and miss that I don't think I'm ready to mess with this... Yet.

I, as you may or may not tell from above, am a computer gamer and a Blender freak. So I've downloaded some of the offerings for gamers from the repositories. Most of these game claim to have sound, Which as far I can tell, it's trying to run but for the most part I can not hear them. I usually just throw in a CD or something to try and ignore it, but that can only help so far knowing that something is not working right.

I'm trying to seek out the info to possibly get that fixed. I know sound work, just doesn't work for most of my Linux games.Yes some game have sound. Mostly the 3d kind. FreedroidRPG is silent.

Any who that now my second post. it took a while as I went out and had to read a few "History of Linux" and GNU and many HOWTOs to try and have more encouraging words about what I'm finding is an issue for me.

This Aspect of my Linux Life, I call "There's something about Stallman."

Over that time I've found that while I feel Richard Stallman make a good point, his views, and what he would have the whole world do, is a bit too far fetched, and unrealistic for me.

Sorry Stallman, You laid the foundation for Linux, and you deserve some credit, but I need my cell phone and other Propitiatory soft and hardware, Just to stay sane.

In closing, I would like to pose a question to the rest of you: "do I really sound like one of his Zealots when I tout my love of an Open Source toolkit?..." you tell me?
